The best way to learn how GTS works is to jump right in and try one of the provided sample tests. Double-click on the GTS Multiple Choice 1.0 icon and wait for the startup window to close. You are now at the sign-in window.
From the File menu, select Open… and choose one of the files in the Sample Tests folder. Next type your name and click on the button labeled Begin Test.
To navigate through the test, use the left and right arrow buttons (5); the numbers directly above these buttons (6) show the number of the question that is currently being displayed, the total number of questions, and the number of unanswered questions. GTS does not require that you answer questions in any particular order; this allows students to return to difficult questions.
The question is displayed at the top of the window (1), and the answers and their associated letter buttons (2) are displayed below it. GTS allows as few as two possible answers and blocks out any unused answer spaces and their buttons (3) so that students cannot accidentally make an invalid selection.
 
Clicking on the speaker button (4) will enable GTS's speech capabilities. Once enabled, clicking within the question or answer boxes will cause the text of that box to be read aloud by the computer. The computer will also speak the current question number, the number of questions remaining to be answered (6), and the alert text in the window that appears when a student clicks on the "Done" button (7) but has not answered all of the questions.
When you have finished the test click on the "Done" button (7). The GTS application will automatically alert you if you have left any questions unanswered (allowing you to resume the test if you have), then store the results of the test and return to the sign-in window.
